It's an edible bouquet! What a wonderful Gift!
Is it party season yet? Hmmm.....maybe, you can bring along a beautiful cupcake bouquet; it would be a wonderful surprise. I absolutely love cupcake bouquets. To make this bouquet, I bought two different baskets but then I saw this black and white bowl at Ross and I thought that this is the one! Maybe some other time I will make more bouquets using those other baskets; all I need is an occasion to make some cupcakes!
Let's get started on your gift basket!
Items Needed:
- bowl/vase/basket of your choice
- styrofoam ball (the size will depend on the size of the bowl/vase/basket)
- icing coloring (colors of your choice)
- homemade or store bought buttercream icing
- green gift wrap tissue paper
- toothpick (round ends; your fingers will thank you for round edges compared to the sharp ended ones)
- regular sized cupcakes and mini cupcakes
1. For homemade buttercream, this site would be a good resource. To save time, the ready to use icing would be handy. The amount needed would depend on the size of your bouquet.
2. Separate your icing into batches and color each batch according to your color preference (for our bouquet, one batch was colored using red coloring and the other batch remained white).
3. Some vases may require the use of a hot glue gun to secure the ball. If desirable, wrap the ball in green tissue paper or wax paper. Securely fit the ball into the vase/bowl.
4. Place the cupcake in the desired position/location on the ball and then push the toothpicks (two toothpicks per cupcake placed at an upward angle) through the cupcake and into the styrofoam. Some persons place the toothpicks in the ball first and then push the cupcake into the toothpick. The first method works best for me. Continue this until all the cupcakes are in place. This arrangement has a mixture of regular sized cupcakes and mini cupcakes.
5. It is now time to make your rose petals. Using the star tips (1M or 2D), make swirls on the cupcakes starting from the middle of the cupcake to the outside. Feel free to go wild with the color order that you choose for your bouquet. Afterall, not all bouquet arrangements look the same.
6) To finish off, fondant leaves on wires can be used. Another option is to cut small pieces of the green paper, fold and fill the spaces with the 'paper leaves'.
Do enjoy your parties this season!
